Built in 1912 and reimagined for the next century, 2654 Fernwood Road challenges everything you thought you knew about character homes. This beautifully restored Arts & Crafts residence is a landmark vision of modern living - proof that heritage, innovation and sustainability can not only coexist, but elevate one another. Completely reimagined by Scott & Scott Architects with Frontera Homes, this award-winning home underwent a comprehensive NETZERO retrofit, transforming a century-old residence into one of Victoria’s most remarkable examples of sustainable design. From the street, its historic character has been thoughtfully preserved. Behind the walls is an incredible level of craftsmanship, building science and innovation. Across 2,273 square feet, the home offers three bedrooms, two bathrooms, inviting living and dining spaces, a beautifully curated kitchen, library/den and generous basement storage/workshop. Natural materials, warm textures and carefully framed light create interiors that feel grounded, timeless and incredibly comfortable. Three separate deck spaces extend living outdoors and into the surrounding gardens. Here, remarkable engineering simply disappears into beautiful design. Virtually every major system has been replaced, including plumbing, electrical, insulation, windows, roofing and mechanicals. Triple-pane windows, advanced heating, ventilation and hot water systems, a low-emission wood stove and solar panels create an exceptionally efficient, fully electric home. A hidden cistern collects rainwater to irrigate the gardens and lawn. Set in the heart of beloved Fernwood, cafés, local restaurants, parks, schools and community gathering places are all close by, with downtown Victoria just minutes away. More than a renovation, this home is an extraordinary case study in what is possible when historic architecture and forward-thinking design are treated with equal respect. Some homes preserve history. This one helps preserve our future.

About

Rodney Henderson

Rodney has been a Real Estate professional since 2009 and has achieved MLS-award status every year since 2011. Clients attribute his success to his detailed nature, in-depth market knowledge, and his experience in construction. They take comfort knowing that the advice he gives is always in their best interest. His goal is to ensure that his clients have all of the knowledge needed to make an educated decision, including all of the reasons to buy and potentially even the reasons not to buy.

Rodney’s background is varied, from elite sports to customer service to construction to professional sales. From the first day he learned to ride a bike, his goal was to always go faster and be better. In 1994, he represented Canada right here in Victoria at the Commonwealth Games and then went on to a five-year racing career in Belgium. As you can imagine, when he decided to hang up the bike in 2001, there were some major adjustments, and he decided to move to Victoria from the Lower Mainland to pursue a career in Food Service, first in restaurant management and then as a territory manager for a multinational beverage manufacturer. While managing on Vancouver Island, Rodney learned time management was the key to success, providing a better service in less time. In 2007, turning his sales, marketing, and management skills towards the construction industry, he joined his cousin's boutique construction company specializing in lifting and renovating houses in Oak Bay. While applying his talents on the back-end of the business, Rodney learned hands-on how homes are built, what it costs to renovate, and what kind of renovations are possible. His vision has helped clients find their own diamonds in the rough and has saved his clients thousands of dollars and immense amounts of heartache.

Outside of work Rodney is passionate about his family and has recently taken up running where, (not) surprisingly, his goal is to always run faster and be better. If you happen to spot Rodney, you might find him playing at the park with his daughter (yes, he is the one going down the slide right behind her!), or out for a run around Elk and Beaver lakes, along Lochside Trail, or at one of Victoria's great running races like The Good Life Marathon, TC 10, or the Vancouver Island Race Series. While he achieved a qualifying time for the Boston Marathon in Fall 2015, Rodney is still chasing the sub 3:00:00 marathon time.

If you do see him around, don't be afraid to stop and say hi!
